In September of 2016, we cycled in Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley of France
We decided this year that we wanted to go back to France and finally see scenery and towns NOT in the mountains. Although we still love climbing hills on our bikes, we were ready to see the rest of this beautiful country.
We cycled through the countryside of Normandy that gave rise to Impressionist painting and inspired the brushstrokes of Monet and Boudin. In addition to riding on wonderful farm roads and bike routes with practically no traffic, we also managed to sneak out to the coast and see all of the beautiful beaches. Among the many highlights include the D-Day landing beaches, the military cemeteries, as well as the battle sites and defense placements.
Of course we finally got to visit the stunning island of Mont-Saint-Michel. We visited it at low tide, high tide and in the darkness of a full moon. From there we explored the coast as well as the quaint villages and countryside of Brittany, including staying a chateau. Most amazing on the trip was the fantastic vegetarian food in the regions.
We were fortunate to enjoy great weather for the most of the month - sunny, warm with blue sky and light breezes. We did have a few cloudy, misty days, and one very rainy day, but still enjoyed a wonderful trip!
